Bella had a great softball game the other night. She scored her second home run and I'm proud to say that I actually saw it this time! It was an impressive score, as the catcher had the ball and was standing about 2 feet in front of home plate on the baseline. She could've easily tagged Bella out, but she never quite reached out for her, and Bella saw her and just ran right around her. The umpire called her safe, much to the protests of the other team's parents, who said that she couldn't run out of the baseline. Of course, I don't know a thing, so I asked another coach, who said that the rule is they can't go three feet off the baseline. Well, Bella was definitely not three feet off the baseline (as you could see her footprints in the dirt) so the ump did make the right call. That's my girl!
Then during a later inning, as Bella was playing shortstop for the first time she made a double play at second base, first tagging the bag for one out and then running and tagging a different runner for the second out. After the game, the coaches called the players together and gave Bella the game ball. She was thrilled. Her coaches have only given out one other game ball this year, so it's quite special to her. I didn't have the camera at the game that night, but this was taken the next morning:
And here's another photo from a previous night... she's so sporty and happy. I love her smile.
