Yesterday when I took Will in for his surgery the nurse was asking me the standard medical history questions, etc. about Will. After a few minutes, she asked, "And you are?"
I replied, "his mom."
"And you go by?"
"Mom, Mommy, Mama..."
"No, I mean, what's your name?"
Doh! As I flushed slightly (or highly) from embarrassment... "Julie."
I don't know what I was thinking! I could chalk it up to being in the 'Will answer' mode, since all the questions prior to this point were all focused on him... but man, did I feel silly. The nurse smiled and chuckled with me, said something about it being an early morning, and we kept on going with the questions.
Last night as I retold this story to my husband, he said something to the effect that my identity as 'Julie' has been taken over by motherhood. I would have to agree, to some extent. But that's okay. I am enjoying this journey and feel honored to be a mom, mommy, mama....
This one made me laugh, mostly because I could picture it soooooo well. And it completely made sense to me. I can't wait to see you guys and share some laughs in person!
