Last summer we were moving in May, and by the time we were settled here in Virginia we had missed the strawberry season. So this year, I was determined to make it to the strawberry fields and load up on all that goodness. The Saturday of Memorial Day weekend was a gorgeous day so we took advantage of the cool weather and headed out.
The girls are great berry pickers. They are careful and diligent and very productive.
The boys, on the other hand, are very good eaters. They float around looking for berries to eat and fill their stomachs instead of the buckets. But I can't blame them, they are so delicious!
We had picked so many strawberries that I made 9 pints of strawberry jam and we were still eating fresh strawberries for a very long time! Then fast forward to July, and we went back to the fields for blackberry season. The blackberries were abundant and also delicious. Although I like to eat strawberries more than blackberries, I sure do prefer to pick the blackberries - it's nice not to have to bend over so much. I think I'm getting old(er) and I definitely feel my age when fruit picking.
The blackberry fields were right next to a river so we took a few minutes to relax in the shade. The kids were throwing sticks into the river, but I made them hold hands for a second so I could take a picture. I am not ashamed to stage photos of my children. {smile}
I sure do love these kids. When I look at this photo it makes my heart swell. I am blessed, indeed.
