Poor Sarah

Sarah was spayed back on the 3rd of this month. Since then, she has been dealing with complications and has been back to the vet 3 times in one week. On Monday, she was sentenced to "kennel rest" for 11 days. Let me tell you, kennel rest with a 5 month old labrador puppy is just plain torture. Usually, she has no problems with her crate, as we leave her in it every night and whenever we leave the house. But when we are home, she expects to be out of the crate, and therefore we have to listen to a lot of whining and barking. It's enough to push a stay-at-home mom with 4 children over the top of craziness.

This was Sunday night, as Sarah enjoyed her last evening of freedom (she was sentenced to the crate on Monday):
On Thursday, we ended up back at the vet and they sent her home bandaged up:
On Friday, the kids and I returned home to find that Sarah had completely chewed off her 'cone of shame':
Which sent me back to the pet store for a new cone that night (a blue one, this time):

Fortunately, Sarah is now free from her bandage, but still stuck in the crate. The vet said that I should ice her abdomen for 6 minutes, 3 times a day to help with her condition. Yes, let me tell you how easy that is on a puppy who wants nothing more than to run free and crazy. Ahhh... the joys of dog rearing!
