Who is this guy?

While Jake was out on his field exercise for two weeks, the guys had a "mustache contest." For anyone who knows my husband and his extreme ability to grow facial hair, it will come as no surprise that he won first place, hands down. He said that at the end of the exercise, they gathered all the guys and said, "Okay, so let's vote for second place." And apparently, he was known for his mustache on the field, too. He was told a few times that the guys couldn't concentrate on anything but the mustache when they looked at him. Here's a shot of him out in the field:

So... fast forward to his homecoming, and the kids were equally enthralled with the new look. When Jake came in the door, Will was first to get wind of his daddy's arrival. He ran to Jake and gave him a huge leg hug, but when he looked up into his face, he suddenly backed off. And then he stared from a distance. It took him a while to warm back up to Jake... we could just see his mind thinking, "Who is this guy?" 

 Once the rest of the kids heard Jake, they all came running... and they spent time investigating the new mustache.

Thank goodness he was able to shave it off a couple days later... we all like him much better without a mustache! Besides, if we're going the facial hair route, I much prefer the full beard and mustache look... too bad the Navy won't allow beards. Give us 10 years, though, and I have a feeling we'll be back to this look:
