This is our first venture into Seabee Battalion life, and it sure does look different around the house lately! For the past 7 years our house has been full of khaki uniforms. You know, those (un)lovely brown Naval Officer uniforms... those uniforms that really don't bring much "military" thought to mind except to those who are familiar with the Navy (or watch enough NCIS). Generally speaking, when one thinks of a military uniform, camouflage usually comes to mind. Of course, there are numerous dress uniforms - the formal uniforms for certain occasions - but camouflage is what comes to my mind when I think of military pride. That "hoorah" uniform. Part of that thought line might come from growing up with my Air Force dad, and the pride that comes to mind remembering him in his camouflage, too. But boy, do I like the way my Seabee looks! Here is a peek around the house:
Boots by the door...
Uniforms hanging in the closet (note those darn khakis peeking out!)...
Prepping for a field exercise...
Taking off his top after a long day at work...
Bedtime stories and hugs for his boys...
Did I mention prepping for a field exercise? The kids got a kick out of this:
Battalion life may not be the easiest tour we will have, but it sure does give me a sense of pride. I am proud of the work that these men and women are doing, and what Jake will be doing for the next couple years. If you're unfamiliar with what the Seabees are, here is a
video link. It is about 7 1/2 minutes long but is worth a watch if you're interested. Simply put, the Seabee motto is: "With compassion for others, we build, we fight, for peace with freedom."
Hoorah Seabees!
