Quite a few months ago a friend had posted this link on Facebook about a keepsake handprint pillow. I quickly went out and bought material and had this grand idea to make these as Mother's Day presents. However, life kept going and April and May were incredibly busy months around here... and well, it just never happened. So when I was packing up for our road trip to Florida, I decided to haul my sewing machine and supplies with us and I was determined to finally make these pillows. I made three in all - one for my mom, one for my mother-in-law, and one for myself. And not to pat myself on the back too much, but I do love how they turned out!
I had the children use their 'dominant' hand. Right now we have one righty, two lefties, and Will who usually favors his right hand but is currently proving to be somewhat ambidextrous. If he ends up being a lefty, this pillow will attest to the fact that he once favored his right hand!
I did all the sewing and then had my friend, Valerie (from the previous post), embroider the children's names and the year for me. The back is a dark brown coordinating fabric with flowers. I guess I should have taken a photo of it, too, but didn't think about it at the time I snapped these shots and now I'm just too lazy to do it.
And while pillows were on my mind... when we came back from vacation and I was washing the mountain of laundry we had accumulated, I didn't notice that there was some thinking putty stuck to a pair of Bella's pajamas. Usually the putty comes right off of clothing (as I can personally attest to) but apparently sending it through the washer and dryer takes away all hope of a clean removal. Bella was very upset over these pajamas as they were a birthday present from her best friend, Haley, who also has the same pajamas (as does Addie, too). So after I sent a distraught Bella to bed that night, I managed to salvage a good sized portion of the dress to make into a small pillow. It's an odd shape because I was trying not to cut off the ladybug in the corner. Bella was very thankful, and that made me happy.
