Sweet Sarah

We are dog people. Jake and I both really loved having dogs in the family, and our children have been asking for years for a dog. We used to have two dogs that we acquired early in our marriage, but that we re-homed before we moved out to Hawaii. Since then, we have been patiently waiting for the right time to acquire a new dog... and as with children, there really never is a "perfect" time. But with Jake leaving soon, it was either now or a year from now... and with the kids putting in their pleas on a near-daily basis, well, we just didn't want to keep putting if off. And hopefully, Sarah will be something good for the children to focus on while Jake is away.

So on Saturday, after two unsuccessful trips to the Humane Society, we finally decided to take the plunge and seek out a local breeder. We found a litter of black lab puppies that were ready to go, and we took a trip out to the country and bought our new puppy! When we arrived, Sarah was definitely the boldest pup of the litter. There were 4 pups, all females, and Bella asked, "How will we pick one? They all look the same!" But Sarah was the only pup to come up to us, the only one that seemed to have some spunk, so we chose her. After the girls came up with a few names... Jake mentioned "Sarah" and we all quickly agreed on her name.

The past few days have been good ones. The kids just love having a puppy in the house. We're working on the housebreaking, but it is coming along. Her first night in the crate was a very LONG one for Jake and I, but she adjusted quickly and is now pretty content in there. However, the biggest issue we have with our new pup is that she is teething like crazy - and on everything! We have been very diligent and she hasn't actually ruined anything (yet), but I am hoping to make another trip to Petsmart to find more appealing dog toys (I guess my economic choices are not within Sarah's standards).

Welcome to the family, Sarah!
